What we’re seeing: spring

A short seasonal read on where beauty press is moving — what editors are commissioning, which formats are landing, and what we would pitch this quarter.

Spring flowers in woven baskets on the back seat of a convertible, beside a quilted handbag.

What editors are commissioning

Fewer roundups, more single-product verdicts. The commissioning briefs we have seen this quarter keep asking the same question: does this deserve to exist? Editors want a position, not a list — which rewards brands that can put one person in front of press and let them argue for the product.

Formats that are landing

The comeback of the long test. Two of the titles we work with have re-introduced multi-week trials, and coverage from them reads with a weight that launch-day verdicts cannot match. Slower for the brand, but the resulting piece works for months. Print, quietly, keeps overperforming for fragrance — scent still sells better on paper than on screen.

What we would pitch now

Founder commentary on manufacturing costs — the trade press is hungry for honesty. Anything with a genuine ingredient story that survives a fact-check. And spring shelf edits pitched immediately: the long-leads are closing summer as you read this.
